Pregnancy Week 27

The fetus can recognize both yours and the father's voice in the stomach and the pulse increases as you speak to it.

The fetus in week 27

The fetus is now 25 weeks old. It is about 32 centimeters long and weighs around 1,100 grams.

During week 26, many fetuses will open their eyes for the first time. The vision is still bad - but there is not much to see inside the womb either.

However, hearing has continued to improve. The fetus can recognize both yours and the father's voice, so keep talking! When you do, the fetal heart rate will actually increase.

The brain also continues its development, the hair germinates and the subcutaneous fat makes the future citizen of the world constantly less wrinkled and translucent.

The fetus also gradually develops its sleep pattern so that you notice quiet and more active periods at about the same time each day.

Being pregnant in week 27

Have you put on enough? All pregnant women gain some weight, but how much varies. It is common to increase anywhere between 7-18 pounds. The most important thing is that the weight gain is reasonably smooth and that you do not lose weight. For some pregnant women, the weight gain will also be somewhat slowed down in the last weeks of pregnancy. Visit Bestaah for quality and affordable maternity lingerie.

Many also experience a roller coaster of emotions during this period. They may be worried about childbirth, or fear that something is wrong with the baby.

Good tips for week 27

Some pregnant women "give up" their diet a little towards the end of pregnancy. It is not very thoughtful. The last extra pounds are usually not necessary for the fetus and become difficult to remove afterwards.

The good advice is neither surprising nor fun: Eat healthy and nutritious food and try a little walk every day. If you manage to keep fit, both the birth itself and the time afterwards will be easier.

If you are struggling with panic and anxiety, the best advice is to talk to someone. Either an midwife, a good friend - or of course your partner.

Glucose load test during pregnancy

P-Glucose is a blood test that measures the blood sugar level, where P stands for plasma and glucose for sugar. During glucose loading, such a test is taken both before and after intake of sugar.

What is glucose load?

Glucose loading is a test used, both during pregnancy and in other cases, in the suspicion of diabetes. It can also be performed as a routine in all pregnant women.

You first leave a blood test on an empty stomach, where the so-called fasting glucose value is measured. This is done to determine how high the blood sugar value is before glucose loading. Then you can drink a certain amount of liquid, about two glasses, containing added glucose (75 g). After two hours, the glucose value is measured again. In diabetes, blood sugar is elevated at fasting and / or after two hours.

When to do glucose load test?

One model is to offer glucose load to pregnant women with increased risk of high blood sugar, partly on the basis of risk factors and partly on random measurements of blood sugar during pregnancy. Load tests are offered when the women who belong to a risk group - who, for example, have previously had pregnancy diabetes, have given birth to a large child, have a BMI above a certain limit or have a close relative with diabetes - or who have a blood sugar value without previous fixed over a certain limit.

Another model is to offer glucose load to all pregnant women, usually during pregnancy week 24-28.

Preparations for glucose loading test

The days before the survey you eat a normal diet. You must be fasting for 8-14 hours before the examination, however, it is possible to drink water and unsweetened tea (without milk in). No smoking, sniffing or heavy physical exertion may occur during the morning before the examination.

During the actual examination, which takes a little over two hours, one may sit or lie down and rest. Feel free to bring something to read or listen to.

If you have an infectious disease and a fever, the test gives incorrect results. Therefore, you must inform the doctor if you are ill, so that they can judge whether the test should still be performed or postponed.

Interpretation of the result

The glucose load test answers if you have diabetes, if you are in a risk zone or if your body's glucose turnover is normal. If you have diabetes, it is important to get the right treatment for this. If you are in the risk zone for diabetes, dietary advice during pregnancy is usually sufficient. If the load is normal, one can continue to live as before, without special considerations.
